A moving Vietnam Veterans’ Day service brought our community together – Lest We Forget 🌹

Vietnam Veterans’ Day at LUSC 🌹

Despite the weather having other plans and the service needing to be moved indoors to LUSC, it was wonderful to see so many members of our community come together today to commemorate Vietnam Veterans’ Day.

It was an incredibly moving and meaningful service, providing an opportunity to pause, reflect and recognise the courage, sacrifice and service of all Australians who served during the Vietnam War, while remembering those who sadly never returned home.

A very special thank you to the Laurieton RSL Sub-Branch for organising and delivering such an excellent service. LUSC was incredibly proud to provide a space for today’s commemoration and luncheon to see our community come together in honour of our veterans.

We will remember them. Lest We Forget. 🌹

Award-winning documentary Floodland screens on Sat 10 Oct – FREE entry, arrive 4pm, film starts 4:30pm!

Sydney Film Festival award winning documentary Floodland captures the 2022 Lismore floods through the eyes of the residents who lived through them.

It moves beyond the news cycle to highlight the First Nations healing practices and community-led solutions that are so vital for Australia’s future.

LUSC and Lyne Together will be hosting a special event screening followed by an expert panel discussion to highlight ways to minimise risk during a local emergency. The panel experts include representatives from Health, Local Government and the SES.

This is a story about strength and resilience, the ability of communities to pull together in the face of disaster, and the urgent conversations being prompted by the reality of our changing climate. The events of the Lismore floods are an opportunity for our regional community to learn about disaster resilience in the face of droughts and bushfires; an invitation to pull together and bounce back in the face of hardship.

Watch the trailer: https://www.floodland.com.au/trailer

The film is free, but we recommend if you are able to direct donations to GIVIT, a well recognised charity that has provided assistance to many in our local area.

We proudly honoured MEAO Day, recognising those who served across the Middle East – Lest We Forget.

On Monday, LUSC proudly recognised the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO) Day.

MEAO Day is an opportunity to acknowledge and honour the service and sacrifice of Australian Defence Force personnel who served throughout the Middle East Area of Operations.

We recognise those who served, those who continue to carry the impacts of their service, and the families who supported them throughout their deployments and beyond.

To all our veterans and service personnel within the LUSC community – thank you for your service. 🇦🇺

We proudly hosted the Camden Haven Garden Club as they celebrated 40 wonderful years together 🌸

🌸 Celebrating 40 Years of the Camden Haven Garden Club 🌸

Yesterday, Laurieton United Services Club were proud to host the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Camden Haven Garden Club – a milestone celebrating four decades of friendship, community and a shared love of gardening. A special thank you to Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Adam Roberts for taking the time to attend yesterday’s celebrations and help recognise this significant milestone.

Founded in 1985, the club began with a small group of local gardening enthusiasts who wanted to create a space where people could come together to share ideas, learn from one another and foster a love of gardening. Over the past 40 years, it has flourished into a thriving community organisation, offering members a diverse calendar of guest speakers, educational workshops, garden visits, bus trips, flower shows and community projects. The club has also published regular newsletters, supported local initiatives and remained a welcoming place for both experienced gardeners and those just beginning their gardening journey.

Yesterday’s celebration also recognised the incredible people who helped establish the club, with special acknowledgement given to Foundation President Joy Ward, Treasurer Kath Warren and Secretary Lesley Hindly, whose vision, passion and dedication were instrumental in laying the foundations for what has become one of the Camden Haven’s longest-standing community organisations. Their leadership helped create a club that has continued to grow and thrive for 40 years.

A heartfelt congratulations to all past and present members who have contributed to the club’s success over the years. Your passion, friendship and commitment have created a wonderful legacy that continues to enrich our local community.

We were honoured to share in your special day and wish the Camden Haven Garden Club many more years of growth, friendship and blooming success. 🌿💚
