Bega singer-songwriter, busker, and performer Matt Preo can now proudly add award-winning songwriter to his list of achievements!
Matt recently won the 2025 John P. Toomey Songwriting Award at the Dusty Boots Festival in Narromine (near Dubbo, NSW) for his heartfelt song “Quandialla Man”, taken from his latest album. Chosen from 29 entries across Australia, this track tells the story of a chance meeting Matt had with a local character in Quandialla, NSW.
Produced by Dave Sparks at Pirate Studios in Wallagoot, “Quandialla Man” showcases Matt’s talent for authentic, story-driven songwriting – a craft he’s honed over a career spanning more than 350 original songs in 38 years.
Matt is humbled and excited about this recognition as he looks ahead to celebrating 40 years of performing in 2027.
