Woolooware Ladies open the 2026 season w/ a brilliant 4–1 win @ Cumberland Golf Course – what a start ⛳

Woolooware Ladies Launch 2026 Season in Style

Perfect golfing conditions greeted the Woolooware Ladies 2026 Grade Team and their caddies as they opened their season at Cumberland Golf Course. Despite sections of the course undergoing construction, the fairways and greens were presented in excellent condition, and the long par 3s proved both exciting and challenging.

First on the tee was the ever-reliable Barb Foy, who set the tone early with a confident 2 & 1 victory. Nothing beats experience and Barb delivered with consistency and a sharp short game.

Moira Frazer faced a tough contest, turning one down after nine. Refusing to yield, she produced some outstanding chipping to stay in touch. The decisive moment came on the 17th: all square and with galleries gathered, Moira calmly holed a long uphill putt to go one up, then closed out the match on the 18th to win 2 up.

Field Captain and newcomer Jen Jones endured a shaky start, dropping the first two holes. Undeterred, she reached for her new 7-wood on the par-3 third and struck a near hole-in-one — a shot that shifted momentum immediately. From there she played composed, consistent golf, sealing a dominant 4 & 3 victory on the 15th.

Dinah Moran, described by her opponent as “a beautiful striker of the ball,” was steady all day. With laser-like approach shots and drives finding the centre of the fairway, she controlled her match and secured a convincing 4 & 3 win on the 15th.

Our number one player, Deb Timmins, had her hands full in a high-quality contest. An unfortunate bounce on the first resulted in a lost ball and early setback, but Deb responded with determination. Two down with two to play, she produced a remarkable shot into the 17th to win the hole and keep hopes alive. Despite her fightback, her opponent held firm on the 18th, and Deb went down 2 down.

The team secured a commanding 4–1 victory to open the season — a fantastic start. They now head to Penrith Golf Club next week to face a strong Elanora Golf Club side in what promises to be another competitive encounter #wooloowaregolf #wp

WGC delivered a statement in Round 3 – 6 to 1 over Brighton Lakes & equal top of the ladder!

2026 Major Pennant Update – Round 3

💥 WGC 6 – Brighton Lakes 1

After a couple of hard fought draws, we turned up for Round 3 looking to notch up our first win of the season and keep in touch with the top of the leaderboard. Woolooware has been a bit of a fortress for our Major Team for quite a few years now, but it was important we sent a message to our opposition this week with a big win at home.

Andy, Kurt and Chris led us out once again this week, with all 3 players getting up early in their matches. Keeping his nose in front all day, Andy shook hands on the 15th – another good dress rehearsal for when he’s called into the 7. Kurt kept his foot down through the middle of the round, and with the help of a chip-in Birdie on 11, he took a decisive 6&5 win. Chris took advantage of his early 5up lead and got our 2nd match in the house, winning 3&2 16th hole.

Mitch, Trent and Dax were our core 3 this week and similarly got out the blocks well. Not to be outdone by his son, Mitch also had a chip-in Birdie, this time on the 9th. Maintaining a steady lead all day, a steady Par clinched another 3&2 result. Trent unfortunately couldn’t get on top of his opponent, going down on 17 after yet another chip-in Birdie, this time from Brighton Lakes.

In quick succession, Jake and Robbie affirmed their great play of late, with both players finishing the job early; 6&5 and 4&3 respectively. 3 Birdies on the trot set the tone early for Jake, as he extended his undefeated run to 17 matches. This left Dax as the final player on course – as the crowd gathered, an impressive full swing flop shot led to a great Par save, therefore sealing a 6-1 victory for the team.

We now sit equal on top the ladder, but have the advantage of holding the most match points. Looking forward to our away leg at Brighton this Sunday at 730am, we know our job is only half done, but seasons can be defined by your Away performances. Hopefully we can bring home another Win and keep the momentum going into our final 2 weeks vs Royal Sydney.

A huge thank you also goes to our Members and family who came to support and caddy on Sunday. It’s great to see the passion our Club Members have for our R
